Cookies

Cookie notice.

We use no tracking, advertising or analytics cookies. We only store what the website or a guide needs to do what you asked, so there is no cookie banner.

Draft. Some company details are still to be filled in; they are marked in brackets. Last updated 8 November 2026.

On this website

  • No cookies.
  • Light or dark theme (browser storage, wg-site-theme): saved only if you pick light or dark with the theme switch, so the next page uses it. Kept until you clear your browser data or switch back to the system setting.

In our audio guides

Cookie, only in guides that ask for a ticket code:

  • wg_a_<guide> and wg_access: a signed record that your code is valid on this device, and until when. Without it the guide would ask for your code on every page. It cannot be read by scripts on the page. Kept until your access period ends, plus 30 days so the guide can tell you that access has ended.

Browser storage, which stays on your phone and is not sent to us:

  • Settings you choose: language (wg:lang), text size (wg:textscale), transcript on or off (wg:transcript), playback speed (wg:rate), light or dark (wg-guide-theme), and your favourite stops (wg:fav). Kept until you clear your browser data.
  • So we do not ask twice: whether you have already rated the guide or said “not now” (wg:feedback), and how often you declined the “turn on nearby stories” suggestion (wg:nearbyOffer). Kept until you clear your browser data.
  • For the current visit only, deleted when you close the tab: where you are in the audio or the ride, whether you have seen the welcome screen, when your visit started (sent only with a rating, as the visit length), and whether you have seen the “access ending soon” notice.
  • Offline copy: the guide installs a small helper (a service worker) that keeps the guide’s pages and files on your phone so it still works with poor signal. If you choose “save for offline”, it also keeps the audio and photos. You can remove it by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

Why there is no banner

EU and Portuguese law (Lei n.º 41/2004, article 5) allow storage on your device without consent only when it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for. Everything above is in that category: it remembers your own choices or keeps the guide working. Nothing is used to track you, to measure how you use the site, or for advertising, and no third-party cookies are set.

The street map in some guides loads map pictures from OpenFreeMap. That service sets no cookies; see the privacy notice for what such a request reveals.

If this changes

If we ever add anything that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first, give you a way to change your mind and update this notice.
